Classes Taught

Lisa is from Te Tai o Aorere Tasman and has connections to Riwaka, Takaka and Tiraweki Wakefield. She is currently in the beautiful ŌtepotiDunedin to gain her Master of Fine Arts in Directing (Theatre).

Whether she is teaching yoga, creating theatre, running community events or teaching Reiki, she is focused on connecting people more deeply to themselves, others and beyond. She has been a devoted student of yoga since 1999, when she began practising with Richard Tweedie (Iyengar-based) in Christchurch as part of her training with Hagley Theatre Company.

Since then, she has studied intensively in India with Pankaj Sharma (Iyengar-based, now teaches in Germany) and Surrinder Singh (hatha style, teaches in Rishikesh, India). She has been teaching yoga since 2004. When she first started teaching there were very few yoga teachers around and she quickly found herself teaching all over town, in a variety of settings, learning on the job.

Through constant study with good teachers, learning through teaching, self-practice, the study of philosophy and reading yoga texts, she found her way and her own style. Lisa's yoga classes invite students to tune into what is present for them, and to respond to whatever that is with self-compassion. In 2018, Lisa undertook an official teacher training with Samma Karuna in Thailand so that she could offer teacher trainings herself, in the future.

Lisa is a versatile teacher, however, you'll most often find her teaching yin at Hot Yoga Dunedin. She loves to collaborate with musicians and often incorporates chanting and waiata into her classes. Lisa is also the director of the creative and healing arts company Wintergreen Creative and lives in Caversham with her husband, Dan, her brother-in-law, Ben and her niece and nephew, Mina and Theo.
